About Brenda (Bz) Zhang
Brenda Zhang (Bz) is a designer, artist, organizer, and educator currently based on Tongva land (Los Angeles, USA). Currently, they organize with the Design As Protest Collective and Dark Matter University and teach at the University of Southern California. In their design and research practice, they are interested in physical and cultural construction as entangled processes of power and narrative and how disciplinary tools of architecture can be used to imagine futures beyond settler colonialism, racial capitalism, and cisheteropatriarchy. In particular, they investigate hybrid spaces—domestic and industrial, urban and hinterland, quotidian and planetary—as found conditions of the Capitalocene and potential sites for new understandings of Place. Bz received a Master of Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Visual Arts from Brown University.
